Has fashion become unwearable?

Gone are the days when fashion could be plucked straight from the catwalk and into the high-street/designer stores. Now, more than ever before, fashion show’s have become a display of the rather bizarre unwearable manifestation of ones imagination. I understand that fashion is about expression, extravagance and innovation, however, is it all worth it when things like this are never going to reach out to a wider consumer? It all just looks a little uncomfortable.

A school friend of mine has a clothing line similar to what was shown at the CSM fashion show, and although I commend the Central Saint Matin student on his talents and flare for fashion, I really do wonder how much can be made  by selling caps that say “c*nt” and fur coats with clear perspex panelling around your ‘nether’ regions. It would be harsh to say that all the expressive  garments available weren’t to my (any many others) taste. The caps are bold and depending on your selection of wording are actually rather ‘buyable’ along with the clutch. However, I would urge you not to wear these around your mother/grandmother  in prevention of giving them  a heart attack. If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out his website: http://www.christiancowansanluis.com.
I also understand that there are people out there who do like this sort of fashion and if it weren’t for people like Christian and other designers they would not be able to demonstrate the way they feel, after all we have goths, punks, mods, country, preps and everything else in between. However, I doubt we will be seeing giant mittens, and duct tape hoods in Topman for A/W13. Would you buy this sort of thing? Let me know.
