Mother's Approval

It is typical for all children to have a bumpy relationship with their parents, but a parents discipline is for a reason and all due to their love for us. Despite our mumbling and grumbling, all we search for in life is their approval and undying attention.
Realistically, most of us wouldn’t particularly dress like our mothers, or date our mothers ideal man, so why is it that we continually seek our mothers approval?
I was shopping the other day and spotted a mother and daughter perusing the sale rail, when the daughter picked up a top which had clearly caught her eye. She then showed it to her mum and said “what do you think of this?” her mum responded with “erm, no, I don’t think so.” But what has, is and always has been strange for me, is understanding why we feel the need to always ask our parents if they like what it is that we want to buy, whether it be clothes, or anything. In this case, the mother wasn’t going to wear the top which the girl had picked out, so it didn’t really matter if her mum liked it or not. It could be argued that we do this because as children our parents buy our clothes and pay for a large majority of our possessions, so do we crave their approval to justify their spending, or do we think what they like, I like?
I know that children admire their parents and look up to them, and therefore, if they do not like something we automatically feel as if this their disapproval. This was always a problem for me when I was a child, and it still is, if I go shopping with my mum I always ask if she likes it, even if I’m the one paying for it and wearing it. Now I mainly do this because I think that my mum has a good fashion sense and like a lot of what she wears and chooses, and I like to think that we have similar tastes. But I cannot go my whole life wondering if my mum will approve of every decision I make.
Is it possible for us to truly pull away from our mother’s or father’s and not worry about what they will say if we buy bright yellow trousers or a top which shows a bit too much flesh? Parents approval doesn’t only span clothing of course, for me it included my choice of friends and boyfriends and how they may shape my life and how they might affect me for better or for worse. Even though you may not agree with you parents opinions I think it is fair to say that they do know what they are talking about and even if you don’t agree with them at the time, a few years down the line you will thank them for ‘disapproving’ of certain aspects of your life.

Nip-Slip or Boob-Bust

Oops. The crazy egg lady may have stolen the limelight during Richard and Adams performance last night on BGT, but Amanda Holden wasn’t having any of it and tried to steal it again as she had a bit of an embarrassing nip-slip live on TV. I say nip-slip it was more of a boob-bust, as it fell out of her J’Aton Couture dress during the finale. Safe to say it left the judge slightly red faced. More tit tape next time. School girl error.

If you tweet it, I'll critique it.

This weeks twitpics have not failed us and we have certainly seem some that make us think twice.

With the release of Miley's new single We Can't Stop come's promotion for music videos and the scepticism around who the song is about. However, it probably isn't hard to guess with the gossip spill releasing that Miley and Liam have officially ended things. Awww. So this is why I thought it very strange that she posted a picture on twitter of her in a wedding dress. Was it hers? IS it hers? Is it still hers? She has also been flashing her hot bod, is this the right message for all her Disney fans?

Miley Cyrus - Wedding Dress

Another celeb flashing the flesh this week is half Kardashion, Kendall Jenner, after recently stating her desire to become a Victoria's Secret model, (who can blame her) she has been posting some smoking pictures online. Although the size of the 17 year old scares me slightly, she recently claimed in an interview that she struggles to put on weight, and looking at some of the portions she eats this surprises me! She may not follow the national trend of obesity but she follows the trend of portion sizes!

With the end of one monotonous talent show, begins another. The X Factor auditions have just started this week and Dermot O'Leary couldn't help but post a quick snap of the new panel, Sharon in toe. I must say I am glad to have her back I think she is Fabulous Darling!

Has fashion become unwearable?

Gone are the days when fashion could be plucked straight from the catwalk and into the high-street/designer stores. Now, more than ever before, fashion show’s have become a display of the rather bizarre unwearable manifestation of ones imagination. I understand that fashion is about expression, extravagance and innovation, however, is it all worth it when things like this are never going to reach out to a wider consumer? It all just looks a little uncomfortable.

A school friend of mine has a clothing line similar to what was shown at the CSM fashion show, and although I commend the Central Saint Matin student on his talents and flare for fashion, I really do wonder how much can be made  by selling caps that say “c*nt” and fur coats with clear perspex panelling around your ‘nether’ regions. It would be harsh to say that all the expressive  garments available weren’t to my (any many others) taste. The caps are bold and depending on your selection of wording are actually rather ‘buyable’ along with the clutch. However, I would urge you not to wear these around your mother/grandmother  in prevention of giving them  a heart attack. If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out his website: http://www.christiancowansanluis.com.
I also understand that there are people out there who do like this sort of fashion and if it weren’t for people like Christian and other designers they would not be able to demonstrate the way they feel, after all we have goths, punks, mods, country, preps and everything else in between. However, I doubt we will be seeing giant mittens, and duct tape hoods in Topman for A/W13. Would you buy this sort of thing? Let me know.

On...off...ON!

After a previous post about Miley and Liam Hemsworths split, and their attempt to re-kindle their puppy love through couples counselling, Liam was spotted partying on his lonesome at the Cannes Film Festival. HOWEVER!! Miley tweeted a picture of herself on twitter an hour ago of her on her "PJ" and in the picture she is wearing her engagement ring... So it looks like this week it's on. For her that is, I'm not sure about loner boner Liam? Hmmm... will it be off next week?

Life as a young Bridget

Please check out my friends new blog. It's about her life as a young Bridget Jones as she partakes in every teenagers life of rebelling against her mothers rules, her quest to find the ultimate boyfriend and her battle with societies stereotypes.

Do it Yourself

The newly single Rihanna is making a statement with her look this week. I know you can never trust men these days, and some have, well, lets just say, limited skills, but there is a time and a place for all things DIY. And that is in privacy.

What is Rihanna wearing! This explicit t-shirt makes me omg. Especially when she wore it in public. Maybe it's English innocence, or maybe I don't understand the humour. This is ok for in your own house RiRi but maybe have an outfit change when you're walking around town, there are children about.

Tortured Toes

Seeing as I have never been pregnant, I have no idea about what the do's and dont's are during the time a human is growing inside you, but I can guess that tight perspex heels are not the right thing to be wearing whilst heavily pregnant. You can tell just by looking at this picture of Kim K, that once again, she has out done herself by dressing terribly and torturing her swollen feet by squeezing them into those horrific perspex and gold heels. For once she looks okay in the white shift dress, but when you get down to the feet you can't stop yourself from saying, 'offftt, ouch.' It's not the first time either, she posted a photo a couple of weeks ago showing the print which her caged Givenchy heels had left on her swollen feet. Pregnancy looks fun!

The tortured toes don't stop there this week as Julianne Moore's toes popped out of her tight strappy heels at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival yesterday. It all looks very uncomfortable. Next time girls, find some shoes that fit!

CANNES - more to come

This years opening of the Cannes Film Festival was just too beautiful not to write about straight away!

Emma Watson has gone from potty to hottie as she shone in a beautiful monochrome Chanel gown. The sequin open backed, black busted gown fit her like a glove as she stood out from the rest of the cast at the premier of her latest film The Bling Ring. Paired with sparkling ear cuffs and jewellery from Repossi. Emma may have started out looking like Shrek but she is certainly no stig of the dump any more.

There are winners and then there are LOSERS!

As we all well know red carpet events have their ups and their downs, and this years BAFTA downs are some of the best.

The 'best' disappointing red carpet outfits were sported by Andrea Riseborough, who wore what can only be described as plastic looking yellow Vivienne Westwood gown, which many on lookers needed sunglasses to look at. And Alice Eve, donned a rather bizarre flame print Alessandra Rich gown, which didn't even reach the floor. This is a pet hate of mine. Maybe you like it but to me it clearly doesn't fit!

And the BAFTA goes to...

I am very late off the ground with my BAFTA fashion faux pas.. but I have finally found the strength to procrastinate enough to find the worst and some of the best dressed at this years BAFTA awards.

I'm going to start on the positives, and dive right in with the one and only Ann Hathaway. Perfectly styling her pixie cut, Ann didn't let the rain cramp her style as she squelched down the red carpet in a black Burberry gown embellished with gold studding. Winning a BAFTA for best supporting actress in Les Miserables.

Black seemed to be the colour of the night with many others wearing black. Amy Adams, wore a beautiful lace and sequined Elie Saab dress paired with Faberge jewellery. Sarah Jessica Parker also opted for Elie Saab, but went with the not so classic red carpet option, a jumpsuit. She still looked beautiful, but maybe a gown next time SJP.

Some decided not to let the English rain deter them from their wishful summer thinking as Marion Cotillard wore Dior Couture to this years awards. Despite the strange ensemble of tulip/full length, the colour really does bring some light to what was a rather dismal evening.

Holly Willoughby blended in with the celebrity style in her simple and elegant floor length red gown by  Valentino. The wind, however, took her a bit by surprise as she quickly stopped her dress from lifting up and flashing the papz. Good save Holly!

Will this sweeten the deal Alan? **WARNING**

Does the high flying, clean cut, no frills Lord Sugar really want this kind of 'businesswoman' (The Apprentice's Luisa Zissman) being his business partner? I know that 'sex sells', but something makes me wonder that Lord Sugar won't appreciate this term.

Looks like some people didn't do their research before accepting applicants. But if the media can get hold of these, anyone can. Makes me wonder if this is a rather embarrassing publicity stunt.

The phrase, young, wild and free comes to mind, someone enjoying life to the full, but maybe now she wishes she had thought twice before posing half naked in compromising situations. - ah hindsight is a beautiful thing. The boozy 25 year old cupcake business owner is very body confident and is not afraid to show the world as she straddles a friend in a club and sunbathes topless.

Two shows in on this years The Apprentice, and Luisa is proving herself as a firtly seller with a sharp tongue saying to Leah Totton- "no offence but you are only a doctor".. hmm something makes me wonder if those 7 years of med. school were for nothing.. I think not.

We will have to keep watching if we want to find out if Luisa can reclaim her dignity or if she just digs her self deeper and deeper into the pit of unemployment.

Who thinks she can last?

Do the summer months make us OBSESSED with our weight?

I understand that everyone wants to look good in a bikini, I do, who doesn't want a perfectly toned body, peachy bum and beautiful sun-kissed skin? (and don't say not you!) The perfect 'girl next door', Miranda Kerr finesse. I'm not going to lie, I even have a 'thinspiration' board on my Pinterest, where I pin beautiful bronzed babes, in nearly no bikini with perfect abs, because I too have fallen foul of the frenzy. However, the reality is that it's practically impossible.

When spring comes around, the magazines fill with the latest fitness, weight loss, 'beach bod' fad which we consumers lap up every year. However, how many of us actually stick to these wheatgrass, lemon water, juice only diets? None of us. And if you do then its probably for a week, until you snatch candy from a baby - like your natural womanly chocolate craving hormones tell you to! We become a demon to society causing a dramatic decrease in cadbury sales!

The problem is (and this is a problem that will be around forever), the magazines we  put on the shelves and the continuous sexualisation of our society. The people on the cover don't even look like that, photoshop is a massive burden on society, models are made flawless, and any possible cellulite or stretch mark is wiped off the page, waists pinched in and a bit of digital lypo to the desired effect. I hope that people already understand this, and I'm just making points that have been made over and over again, but I guess the people that need targeting are not the mum's of two but the teenagers, the pre teen children who idolise Miley Cyrus during her Hannah Montana stage (far away from where she is now), Demi Lovato, who had an eating disorder. Children should realise that these people are miles away from reality, they have stylists, make up artists, personal trainers, things that we can only dream of. The next generation should realise that these people are not normal, and that being like them isn't an achievement, in fact, its sad. Celebrities would agree that the fame and fortune that the children of today dream about isn't as adventurous and as stimulating as its portrayed.

The 'thigh gap' has become a major phenomenon over the past couple of months, with celebrities boasting about theirs on twitter, TOWIE's Maria Fowler uploaded this picture to her twitter account, only 3 months after having liposuction.

And for those of you who don't know what TOWIE is, then its short for The Only Way is Essex, which is a moronic, reality TV programme aimed at people with the mental capacity of a fish. With characters who have had boob jobs, liposuction, lip injections, fake hair, fake nails, fake tan, there is nothing 'real' about this programme. Sorry if you like it but this is just my opinion. No wonder we live in a society full of teenagers obsessed with their appearance, and only crave one thing, "fame".

I don't see the problem with wanting to control what you eat, to have a healthy diet and stay fit by going to the gym. I love working out and do it a lot, but I also love food, and having a body you could bounce a ball off doesn't motivate me, and it shouldn't drive other people too. I also don't have an issue with wanting to tone up for the summer, just to feel more confident when you're walking down the beach, but what I do object to is filling peoples minds with bogus information and plans, to get a perfect set of abs in 60 days (but only if you eat celery and a teaspoon of peanut butter for every meal!)

Here are some photos of before and after photo shoots which get put into the magazines we read and listen to:

Keep Calm and Read On..

Beggin' Beggin' Yooouuu, To Dump Him!

My fascination for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's engagement turmoil, is like my attachment to Honey Boo Boo, I can't stop watching (well reading in this case), but I'm begging it to end. How long will this go on for? On, off, on, off, on, off, on, off... (you get my drift).  It doesn't take long after I finish reading one blog post say the weddings off, when another one pops up saying they couldn't be more in love! We all know that the 'close friend' or 'insider' is actually the writer themselves, finding a way to juice it up.

And, isn't it just the worst when other people get involved with your relationships, (usually the best friend saying "he doesn't deserve you, you're too good for him!") we all know they are looking out for us and want to be the person that says "i told you so" when it all goes horribly wrong, but things get a little awkward when your family get involved. Only yesterday did I read that Hemsworths brother were staging a "How I Met Your Mother" style intervention for him to call off the engagement. This seems like a long time coming after the numerous appearances sans fiancé et Bague de fainçailles (engagement ring), most recently at this weeks Met Ball.

Only a day later (today) do we hear that the couple are 'seeking couple's therapy in a hope to save their relationship'. I will miss hearing about their relationship debacle but maybe it will help me revise more not having a new story pop up every five minutes. We will have to sit and wait to see the outcome.

Fashion Drive Through?!

Is this even possible? Apparently so, as Selfridges aim to launch the worlds first drive through shopping service. Check it out for yourself!

Punk Perfection

Rooney Mara shone like a Punk Princess on the red carpet at last nights Met Ball. After all the dissing I’ve been dishing I thought it was about time I congratulated someone on their styling as it has been a bit of a task recently.
Unlike poor Kim K, Rooney Mara seems to know her Givenchy, and wears it faultlessly. The 28 year old actress, with arguably the best wardrobe in town stole the show pairing a dark berry lip (similar to: MAC’s cyber), perfectly slicked back hair and lace gown. What more could you want?

Glossybox

I know I am VERY late on the bandwagon for Glossybox, but I just thought that others may have missed this too! I have heard about beauty boxes for a long time, but I have never really looked into them, being a student its not a very economical way of spending money! And I have only really become OBSESSED with luxury beauty and body products in the past year or so, these are perfect gift ideas. Especially if you aren't able to splash the cash on the full size products. They are also great if you just want to test out new products, and if you're really keen, then you can go and get the real deal. You can get lucky and even get a full size product in your glossybox! Fab!

These are great gift ideas, or treats for yourself if you're a mega makeup head.

This is how it works:

1, You select your box and your plan:

A monthly plan: £10 each month
                3 month plan: £27
                6 months: £50
               12 months: £100

MET BALL - WTF's

Now, I know this isn't the first time that I have hated on Kim K's baby bump styling, and I thought she had started to get the hang of it over the past couple of weeks, but at last nights MET Ball, Kim went all 'amputee' on us camouflaging her hands with patterned gloves matching her custom made Givenchy dress.

Despite the disregard for the 'punk' theme, and sans gloves, Kim could have stepped out in another decent ensemble. However she decided to keep us wondering why oh why she picks these outfits..

Is there something she's hiding under these gloves? It has been mentioned that as soon as her divorce came through from Basketballer Kris Humphries, her and Kanye would tie the knot, but a source has recently spilled that this is now unlikely due to the stresses of the divorce. Shame really. But who knows...

I may have previously mentioned my love for Miley Cyrus's new f*** Disney look, and she seems to have hit the theme on the head at NY's Met Ball.

Whilst I think that her hair looks truly horrendous as it looks like she has stuck her hand in a socket and got an almighty electric shock, think punk look totally suits her new rebellious character (and figure!). I also think her make up is flawless, and kudos to whoever did that!

Miley's rather unflattering mesh dress is by Marc Jacobs.
