Mother's Approval

It is typical for all children to have a bumpy relationship with their parents, but a parents discipline is for a reason and all due to their love for us. Despite our mumbling and grumbling, all we search for in life is their approval and undying attention.
Realistically, most of us wouldn’t particularly dress like our mothers, or date our mothers ideal man, so why is it that we continually seek our mothers approval?
I was shopping the other day and spotted a mother and daughter perusing the sale rail, when the daughter picked up a top which had clearly caught her eye. She then showed it to her mum and said “what do you think of this?” her mum responded with “erm, no, I don’t think so.” But what has, is and always has been strange for me, is understanding why we feel the need to always ask our parents if they like what it is that we want to buy, whether it be clothes, or anything. In this case, the mother wasn’t going to wear the top which the girl had picked out, so it didn’t really matter if her mum liked it or not. It could be argued that we do this because as children our parents buy our clothes and pay for a large majority of our possessions, so do we crave their approval to justify their spending, or do we think what they like, I like?
I know that children admire their parents and look up to them, and therefore, if they do not like something we automatically feel as if this their disapproval. This was always a problem for me when I was a child, and it still is, if I go shopping with my mum I always ask if she likes it, even if I’m the one paying for it and wearing it. Now I mainly do this because I think that my mum has a good fashion sense and like a lot of what she wears and chooses, and I like to think that we have similar tastes. But I cannot go my whole life wondering if my mum will approve of every decision I make.
Is it possible for us to truly pull away from our mother’s or father’s and not worry about what they will say if we buy bright yellow trousers or a top which shows a bit too much flesh? Parents approval doesn’t only span clothing of course, for me it included my choice of friends and boyfriends and how they may shape my life and how they might affect me for better or for worse. Even though you may not agree with you parents opinions I think it is fair to say that they do know what they are talking about and even if you don’t agree with them at the time, a few years down the line you will thank them for ‘disapproving’ of certain aspects of your life.

Nip-Slip or Boob-Bust

Oops. The crazy egg lady may have stolen the limelight during Richard and Adams performance last night on BGT, but Amanda Holden wasn’t having any of it and tried to steal it again as she had a bit of an embarrassing nip-slip live on TV. I say nip-slip it was more of a boob-bust, as it fell out of her J’Aton Couture dress during the finale. Safe to say it left the judge slightly red faced. More tit tape next time. School girl error.

If you tweet it, I'll critique it.

This weeks twitpics have not failed us and we have certainly seem some that make us think twice.

With the release of Miley's new single We Can't Stop come's promotion for music videos and the scepticism around who the song is about. However, it probably isn't hard to guess with the gossip spill releasing that Miley and Liam have officially ended things. Awww. So this is why I thought it very strange that she posted a picture on twitter of her in a wedding dress. Was it hers? IS it hers? Is it still hers? She has also been flashing her hot bod, is this the right message for all her Disney fans?

Miley Cyrus - Wedding Dress

Another celeb flashing the flesh this week is half Kardashion, Kendall Jenner, after recently stating her desire to become a Victoria's Secret model, (who can blame her) she has been posting some smoking pictures online. Although the size of the 17 year old scares me slightly, she recently claimed in an interview that she struggles to put on weight, and looking at some of the portions she eats this surprises me! She may not follow the national trend of obesity but she follows the trend of portion sizes!

With the end of one monotonous talent show, begins another. The X Factor auditions have just started this week and Dermot O'Leary couldn't help but post a quick snap of the new panel, Sharon in toe. I must say I am glad to have her back I think she is Fabulous Darling!

Has fashion become unwearable?

Gone are the days when fashion could be plucked straight from the catwalk and into the high-street/designer stores. Now, more than ever before, fashion show’s have become a display of the rather bizarre unwearable manifestation of ones imagination. I understand that fashion is about expression, extravagance and innovation, however, is it all worth it when things like this are never going to reach out to a wider consumer? It all just looks a little uncomfortable.

A school friend of mine has a clothing line similar to what was shown at the CSM fashion show, and although I commend the Central Saint Matin student on his talents and flare for fashion, I really do wonder how much can be made  by selling caps that say “c*nt” and fur coats with clear perspex panelling around your ‘nether’ regions. It would be harsh to say that all the expressive  garments available weren’t to my (any many others) taste. The caps are bold and depending on your selection of wording are actually rather ‘buyable’ along with the clutch. However, I would urge you not to wear these around your mother/grandmother  in prevention of giving them  a heart attack. If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out his website: http://www.christiancowansanluis.com.
I also understand that there are people out there who do like this sort of fashion and if it weren’t for people like Christian and other designers they would not be able to demonstrate the way they feel, after all we have goths, punks, mods, country, preps and everything else in between. However, I doubt we will be seeing giant mittens, and duct tape hoods in Topman for A/W13. Would you buy this sort of thing? Let me know.

Goals

Your goal shouldn't be a weight, it should be happiness.
